Home Group Encouragement

Have you ever felt you needed encouragement because the pressures of your life seem unbearable? Or maybe you have felt that you are alone, left to face life on your own without care or support. It may surprise you that there are others just like you, who feel this same way. Let me ask you a question. Have you ever stopped to ask God what can help you with these feelings? The body of Christ is a unique family. God has designed His body to be a support for those who feel alone and without encouragement. But this body is not just for encouragement; it was also designed to help move each of us towards maturity, which is the likeness of Christ.
One of the ways we support our family and encourage each other to become like Christ is through our home groups. This is a special time we have set aside to talk about previous sermons and share thoughts around God’s word. These are times for refreshing as we gather together in a home to share, pray, and have a time of fellowship. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 it tells us to “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” This is what we endeavor to do in our Home Groups.
Hebrews 10:25 directs us “not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” Some may see this passage as only relating to Sunday worship attendance. But I believe it’s much broader than that. Yes, it is important to meet together each week. But what happens if you are not able to make it to worship on Sunday or on a few Sundays? How are you to encourage others or be encouraged yourself? Hebrews 10: 24 reads, “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works.” This is something we are all called to do. As the body of Christ we need each other to function. So let me encourage you the next time you or someone you know is feeling discouraged, bring them to the next home group so we can build each other up in love and good works. We are His body, and each part of the body plays an important role (1 Cor. 12:19-21).
